Filmmakers’ Statement

Dead Girl delves into Dani's journey of acceptance and self-discovery as she grapples with her newfound existence as a monster. She is on the outside looking in and through her experiences, we aim to mirror the sense of isolation and longing many can relate to, as we watch life unfold around us. Here, we use the allegorical nature of Dani's transformation to capture the universal struggles of identity and stagnation, akin to feeling like a stagnant misfit while others seem to thrive.

The story was born from an obsession with bittersweet memories, illuminating the fine line between joy and sorrow. By weaving laughter and tears into the narrative, our aim is to evoke a deeply human response, touching on themes of love, loss, and the necessity of leaving the past behind. We are excited to bring this queer story to life in a genre movie, a landscape from which we are still too absent to this day.

In Dead Girl, the audience will find a reflection of their own emotional journey, resonating with the universal quest for connection and understanding.
